Are you worried about this years election?
A lot of people are.
The 2020 election has turned out to be one of the most controversial in a long time. This year has been one of tragedy, insanity, panic, dissolution, and division. It’s been quite a mess.
On the other hand, some of us have used ‘The Great Pause’ as an opportunity for introspection. We used this unprecedented disruption to discover and explore new ideas, identifying elements of ourselves and of our society so we could learn from them.
With so much tension… so much division… it’s no surprise that our country seems ready to implode on election day.
I stopped by our local Walmart yesterday… Guess what?
They pulled all the guns out of Walmart in preparation for ‘potential civil unrest.’
Is that crazy or what?
As Americans, many of us are afraid of losing the principles on which we stand. Each side sees only disaster if their opposition wins…
…but we may be looking at this entirely the wrong way.
Remember this… Our God has a plan…
It’s important to remember in uncertain times that…
God has a plan.
No matter what happens this election, no matter who you are fighting for, God is in control. He has ordained the outcome from the beginning of time.
Note! That does NOT mean you shouldn’t vote! Your vote was already counted then, but you have to cast it now!
We can be at peace, no matter what the outcome is… because His word tells us that whatever authority is put in power… it is put their by God according to His will:
“Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.” – Romans 13:1
In our human minds and on the finite timescale of our tiny lives, we may not always understand the reasons God has for doing what He does. However, that doesn’t mean He isn’t in control.
He has a plan, and it is being fulfilled – no matter what it looks like.
We can be at peace and rest in the assurance that our God has a purpose. No matter what, we do not put our faith in any human leader. Our leader is our Shepherd, and we are His sheep. We are part of His kingdom… and no other.
That Leader, the great Shepherd, Jesus Christ, said something very interesting about His kingdom:
“Jesus answered, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.'” – John 18:36.
That is the kingdom to which we are heirs through His blood.
As Romans 8:17 says, “and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.”
So, if you are afraid of what will happen to our country after this years election – just remember: OUR GOD IS BIGGER. HE HAS A PLAN!
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” – Psalm 46:1-3.
Pray with me:
Lord, I pray that You would move through the hearts of the men and women of our country. Father, we have gone so far astray. Many of Your people have turned away and forgotten Your precepts, Your principles, on which all the greatness of America was achieved.
Melt our hearts, Lord. Remind us that You alone are the ONE TRUE LIVING GOD. You alone are worthy of all praise. We have surrounded ourselves with idols. We have made ourselves into our own idols. We have foolishly tried in vain to remove our own Foundation from beneath us; seeking selfish ambition, avarice, pride, and pleasure.
We have professed ourselves to be wise. We have educated our children with perversity and foolishness… and for what?
We seek not to offend, yet we are increasingly divided. We seek to glorify ourselves, but we are put to shame before many nations.
Father, I pray that You would show Yourself before it is too late for us. I pray that You would light aflame the moral love and reverence of our God in this nation. I pray that You would be our fear… You would be our dread… and so You would become our SANCTUARY once again!
…And I pray that change would start in my own heart.
Purify me from the inside out. Lay your Spirit upon my soul and bleach me white as snow. Let there be nothing corrupt left within me… no hatred… no judgment… no ignorance… no pride… so that I might live a life pleasing to You…
So that I might do my part to spread Your love by following the example of Your Son, Jesus. Let my eyes grow tired from reading Your word. May my heart be tender flesh – ready to be molded, conformed to the person You desire me to be.
Let this great change start with ME.
Let this great change start with YOU!
In the power of Jesus Name… AMEN.
God bless you for reading!
