I once had a pastor that would point to his Bible and say, “this book will keep you from sin – or sin will keep you from this book.”
How right he was!
I went through a long period of learning not long after that. Maybe you can relate?
I learned how imperfect and human I am… I learned how quickly and easily I fail at things when I devise my own way. I learned that there is no lasting profit in worldly things…
All of that was outlined in His word, but I had stopped reading it and fell down a path of utter confusion, anger, bitterness, and despair. All of that taught me AT LEAST one thing: How much I need a daily dose of His word more than anything else – even a cup of coffee in the morning.
Psalm 119:130-133 says, “The entrance of Your words gives light, it gives understanding to the simple. I opened my mouth and panted, for I longed for Your commandments.”
“Look upon me and be merciful to me, as Your custom is toward those who love Your name. Direct my steps by Your word, and let no iniquity have dominion over me.”
When my steps are directed by me… I usually get myself into a bind! I find peace and comfort in allowing my path to be woven together with the masterful hands of my Creator…
Because His tapestry will far outperform anything I could create – and I learn to walk in faith more and more each day… because He is INCREDIBLY faithful!
Another thing I’ve learned about starting my day is the need for prayer. It is important to open up that line of communication between your God and your spirit – no matter how busy you are.
Martin Luther said, “I have so much to do that I shall spend the first three hours in prayer.”
If you feel in a rush… just remember that God is above time… He can work miracles, and anything you do will be a thousandfold better with Him involved in it.
These two things build the platform on which I launch my day. Today, just like those days… I am refreshed. I am ready.
Remember: Worship isn’t just about singing and music. True worship is of the heart and we perform it through obedience. We love God… and we prove it by spending time with Him… seeking Him… learning to walk in His ways… and holding fast to Him…
When we start each day with Him it’s like lighting incense to the Lord… to burn with the fire of His Spirit throughout the day as a Holy offering to Him… a sweet aroma to the Lord.
Hope this benefits your walk with God!
Have a blessed day!
